Internationally celebrated Georgian mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili is recognized worldwide as one of the most compelling and distinctive voices of her generation. Her combination of vocal power, magnetic stage presence, and profound emotional depth has established her as the pre-eminent interpreter of many of the great dramatic mezzo-soprano roles in today’s opera world.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Anita graduated from the Vano Sarajishvili Tbilisi State Conservatory, where her talent quickly drew international attention. Her meteoric rise began with her historic debut at Teatro alla Scala in Milan as Carmen under the baton of Daniel Barenboim — a performance that instantly propelled her onto the world stage and became a defining moment in modern opera history. Since that landmark debut, Anita has appeared at many of the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra National de Paris, Arena di Verona, Greek National Opera Athens, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Massimo Palermo, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Dresden Opera, and at major international festivals including Salzburg and Verona.
Her portrayals of Carmen, Amneris (Aida), Azucena (Il Trovatore), Eboli (Don Carlo), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Dalila (Samson et Dalila), La Principessa di Bouillon (Adriana Lecouvreur), Charlotte (Werther), Lyubasha (The Tsar’s Bride), Konchakovna (Prince Igor), Marfa (Khivanschina) and La Cieca (La Gioconda) have earned her universal critical acclaim. In each of these roles she combines technical mastery with an unmistakable personal intensity that makes every performance unforgettable. Anita has collaborated with many of the world’s most distinguished conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Antonio Pappano, Zubin Mehta, Daniel Barenboim, Gianandrea Noseda, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Daniele Rustioni, James Conlon, Marco Armiliato, and Carlo Rizzi, as well as with celebrated colleagues such as Jonas Kaufmann, Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna, Aleksandrs Antonenko, Francesco Meli, Anna Pirozzi, Brian Jagde, Saioa Hernandez and Luca Salsi.
A frequent guest at leading symphonic venues, she has appeared in concert at Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Elb Philharmony among others. Her recitals — often in collaboration with Maestro Vincenzo Scalera — reveal her deep musical intelligence and rare ability to connect with audiences through sincerity and emotional truth.
