Mattia Olivieri
Early graduated from the Music Conservatory G.B. Martini in Bologna, Mattia Olivieri then specialized with baritone Maurizio Leoni, with whom he is still studying. In 2009, he was admitted to the Scuola dell’Opera Italiana of Teatro Comunale di Bologna and began collaborating with musical institutions such as Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca and Semperoper Dresden. In 2012, he also participated in the Accademia Rossiniana at Pesaro’s Rossini Opera Festival and was admitted at the Centre de Perfeccionament of the Opera Valencia where, among other activities, he performed Schaunard in La bohème (Chailly-Livermore).
In 2015 Mattia Olivieri started his relationship with La Scala, debuting as Schaunard in Zeffirelli’s production of La bohème under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel and, at the same time, as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore conducted by Fabio Luisi and staged by Asagarov. Since then, he has been a frequent guest in La Scala’s opera seasons: he returned there to sing Masetto in Don Giovanni directed by Carsen and conducted by Järvi, Schaunard under Pidò’s baton, Malatesta in the new production of Don Pasquale staged by Livermore and conducted by Chailly, Nardo in La finta giardiniera in Wake-Walker’s Glyndebourne production under Fasolis – also brought on tour to Shanghai –, Dandini in La cenerentola directed by Ponnelle/Asagaroff and conducted by Dantone, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Prosdocimo in Il turco in Italia, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Silvio in Pagliacci.
Among the other roles he performed: Marcello in La bohème in Athens, São Paulo, Venice, Valencia and Amsterdam, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia also at Wiener Staatsoper, Nice and Berlin, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte in Valencia, Nice, Florence and Rome, Cherubini in the Zarzuela El duo de la Africana in Valencia, the title role in Don Giovanni at Berlin, Palermo, Trieste and in Naples’ San Carlo tournée in Dubai, Escamillo in Carmen in Genoa and Florence, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with Circuito Lirico Marchigiano, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor in Padova and Paris, Parmenione in L’occasione fa il ladro in Muscat (tournée for the Rossini Opera Festival), Alphonse in La Favorite at Maggio Fiorentino, Liceu and Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Ford in Falstaff at Tokio NNTT, Il turco in Italia in Madrid, Les Martyrs at Theater an der Wien, I vespri siciliani at San Carlo, Beatrice di Tenda in Genoa, Silvio in I pagliacci in Amsterdam and Valencia, Il Trovatore at La Fenice.
His most recent engagements include returns as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Massimo in Palermo and Opéra de Paris, La cambiale di matrimonio at the Rossini Opera Festival, Il prigioniero at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Delirio in L’opera seria at Teatro alla Scala, La bohème at the Bayerische Staatsoper, I puritani and Il trovatore at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, La traviata at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. In 2023, he made his debut at the Metropolitan in New York in Florencia en el Amazonas, and in 2022 sang in Puccini’s Messa di Gloria under Pappano at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
Engagements for the 2025/26 season include returns to Wiener Staatsoper for Don Giovanni (title role) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico), his debut as the title character in Eugene Onegin at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia and Il barbiere di Siviglia at Staatsoper Hamburg.
