After studying piano, organ and composition, he graduated with honours and special mention in Orchestral Conducting from the Conservatory of Florence, and in Choral Music and Choir Conducting from the Conservatory of Ferrara. At the same time, he gained a degree in Music from the University of Bologna. He then pursued his training at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, and, for conducting technique and dramaturgical analysis, with Francesco Lanzillotta and Bruno Taddia.

The orchestras he has conducted include those of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the Arena di Verona, as well as the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, I Pomeriggi Musicali, the Sinfonica di Milano and the National Symphony Orchestra of the Radiotelevisione Italiana. His repertoire ranges from the 17th century to avant-garde works of the third millennium.

Among his operatic and oratorio successes are Bizet’s Carmen at the Macerata Opera Festival, Rossini’s La Cenerentola at theatres in the AsLiCo circuit, Verdi’s La traviata with Opera Lombardia and the Rete Lirica delle Marche, and Aida at the Teatro Sociale in Como, Rossini’s Adelaide di Borgogna at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, and Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore again with Opera Lombardia. These have been complemented by modern revivals of masterpieces such as I falsi monetari by Lauro Rossi and Amazilia by Giovanni Pacini at the “Il belcanto ritrovato” festival in Pesaro-Fano, and La passione di Gesù Cristo signor nostro by Stanislao Mattei at the Bologna Festival, in addition to the world premiere of Cronaca di un amore. Callas e Pasolini by Davide Tramontano at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza.

His upcoming engagements include Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, and Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari.
